Grounding for Better Business Decisions
Oct 17, 2024Ever had one of those days where you’re trying to make a decision—any decision—and no matter what, you just can’t seem to land on the right one? Your mind is in overdrive, thoughts are bouncing around like a ping-pong match, and yet, despite all that mental energy, you feel completely stuck. As an entrepreneur, you’ve probably had your fair share of days like that, where you’re pulled in a million directions and nothing feels clear.
Enter grounding. And no, I don’t mean taking a walk outside to literally touch grass (although, if that works for you, go for it). Grounding is an energetic practice that can be done anywhere, anytime—and when you’re grounded, those foggy, stressful decision-making days become a whole lot clearer. (If you’re new to energy work or want to know more about how it can support your business, check out my post on How Energy Work Can Transform Your Business).
What Does It Mean to Be Ungrounded?
Think of being ungrounded like spending your day with your head in the clouds. Your energy is all up at the top of your body, scattered, and completely disconnected from the Earth. You might feel spacey, indecisive, or a bit like Luna Lovegood floating through her day. (No offense to Luna—she’s great for a lot of things, but decision-making under pressure? Not so much.)
When your energy is concentrated at the top, it can leave you feeling anxious, chaotic, and—let’s be real—overwhelmed. It’s no wonder you’re struggling to focus or get anything done! That’s where grounding comes in. Grounding is about redistributing that energy so you’re not only living in your head, but feeling connected to your whole body, and in turn, the Earth.
Common symptoms of an ungrounded entrepreneur include:
- Feeling indecisive or unable to land on a clear choice
- Overthinking every decision, creating mental back-and-forth
- Difficulty focusing or feeling spacey and distracted
- Feeling anxious or overwhelmed, especially in high-stakes moments
- Constantly caught in big-picture ideas but struggling to implement them
- Poor sleep due to racing thoughts or feelings of chaos
I’ve been there, too. In the early days of my business, I was constantly pushing through the chaos—overworking, ignoring my body, and running on anxiety-fueled energy. It wasn’t until I learned how to ground myself correctly that things shifted. I began to sleep better, make clearer decisions, and felt more aligned with my business. Grounding changed everything.
The Power of Grounding
Grounding is an energetic practice that brings your energy back into balance by connecting you to the Earth. The beauty of grounding is that it can be done anytime, anywhere—you don’t need to escape to a forest or be barefoot in a park (although, sure, that can help). Grounding is about more than just being in nature. It’s about redistributing your energy so it’s not all floating in your head, but anchored in your body.
When we ground, we send our energy deep into the Earth, connecting with her stabilizing force. In return, the Earth gives us her grounding energy, which fills our body and energy system. This allows us to feel safe, held, and secure, which, as entrepreneurs, is exactly the energy we need to make clear, confident business decisions.
Grounding isn’t just about calming the chaos in your mind—it’s about tapping into the energy that allows you to feel fully present, centered, and connected to your body. And when that happens, you’re able to navigate your business with more clarity and peace.
How Grounding Impacts Your Business
So, how does grounding actually translate into better business decisions? It’s all about balance. When your energy is scattered or concentrated at the top of your system, you’re not fully present in your body. This leads to overthinking, indecision, and even anxiety about the smallest choices. It’s easy to get lost in a loop of 'What ifs' or feel overwhelmed by all the options.
But when you’re grounded, your energy is more evenly distributed throughout your body, especially your lower energy centers—your root, sacral, and solar plexus. These are the energy centers tied to security, creativity, and confidence. Grounding allows you to:
- Feel more secure in your decisions (root), knowing you’re supported and connected.
- Tap into your creativity (sacral) so you can make choices that feel aligned with your vision.
- Be more confident (solar plexus) in following through with those decisions without second-guessing yourself.
Personally, grounding completely changed the way I run my business. I used to spend so much time going back and forth, questioning my decisions, and feeling pulled between different options. But once I started grounding regularly, I could make decisions with more ease. I wasn’t constantly getting caught in overwhelm or indecision—I was able to trust myself and take action without hesitation.
Grounding Techniques for Entrepreneurs
The best part about grounding? It’s simple, effective, and you can do it anywhere—even while sitting at your desk or in the middle of a meeting. Here are a few grounding techniques that I’ve found incredibly helpful as an entrepreneur:
- Morning Grounding Ritual: Start your day by setting aside just a few minutes to ground your energy. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and imagine sending your energy down through your feet and deep into the Earth. Picture the Earth’s energy rising up to meet you, filling your body with a warm, stabilizing force. This practice sets the tone for a clear, calm day.
- Give Your Burdens to the Earth: Whenever your energy feels chaotic—whether it’s stress, indecision, or overwhelm—imagine giving that energy to the Earth to hold for you. The Earth has an infinite capacity to absorb and transform energy, so you can release what’s weighing you down and focus on what needs your attention.
- Bedtime Grounding: If racing thoughts are keeping you awake at night, this technique can be a game changer. Before bed, take a few moments to ground your energy, just like in the morning. Then, intentionally release any worries or challenges you’re carrying into the Earth. This can help you fall asleep faster and wake up feeling more refreshed.
- In-the-Moment Grounding: Even in the middle of a busy day, you can ground yourself. While working or talking to someone, focus part of your consciousness on your energy. Feel your body relaxing, your energy settling, and your feet connecting to the ground. Just a few seconds of this can make a huge difference in how you feel and respond.
Making grounding a daily habit allows you to approach your business with more ease, clarity, and focus. And when things get chaotic, grounding can be your go-to tool to restore calm and help you move forward with confidence.
Misconceptions About Grounding
There are a lot of misconceptions about grounding, especially in the business world. Many people think it’s just about “touching grass” or being outside in nature. While getting outdoors can certainly help, grounding goes much deeper than that. It's not just a one-time action or a shallow practice. It’s about creating a relationship between your energy and the Earth’s energy.
Some common misconceptions about grounding:
- It’s only about being in nature: Sure, standing barefoot on the earth is a great way to ground, but it’s not the only way. Grounding is an energetic practice, and you can do it anywhere—whether you're in an office, a meeting, or even stuck in traffic.
- It doesn’t go deep enough: A lot of people think grounding is a quick surface-level fix, and while it can be done quickly, the key is learning how to ground properly. When you understand how to sink your energy deep into the Earth and allow her energy to rise up and meet you, even a short grounding practice can leave you feeling centered and secure. It’s about depth, not just time.
- It’s not connected to material abundance: One of the biggest misconceptions is that grounding is purely a spiritual or calming practice, disconnected from the material world. In reality, the Earth is the source of all material abundance. When you ground yourself, you’re not just calming your energy—you’re tapping into the resources that help you feel safe and supported in your business and life.
I didn’t fully understand the power of grounding until I started voice channeling. I had been doing basic grounding practices as part of my energy work, but I hadn’t gone deep enough. It wasn’t until I learned how to ground deeply, to the point where my body felt heavy, like I was soaking in a luxurious mud bath of energy, that I really felt the impact. Once I started practicing this every morning, I noticed I was sleeping better, my decision-making became clearer, and I felt more present in my business.
Grounding isn’t just a quick reset. It’s a practice that, when done deeply and intentionally, can transform how you feel and how you show up in your business.
